Damn You ISR!

I am sat here on a Sunday evening trying to debug embedded C/C++. For the most part all has been going well and the code has been behaving as expected. I have however run into one of my least favourite problems, the interrupt service routine (ISR). I have a couple of ISR’s and they are presenting an unexpected start-up condition. The flow of the main body of the code is fine. I just can’t understand why I am getting the current output.

Aims for 2005 - How did I do?

Back in January I posted up the following aims for the year. I decided I might achive some aims rather than fail at new years resolutions.

The Week That Was

It’s been a different type of week. Not really a bad week but one where stuff occurred that usually doesn’t. It being half term for the school kids seemed to have upset the balance of Nottingham city centre. Monday I wandered away from the university building to mix with the rest of the public. I wish I hadn’t bothered. The place was full of people, trying to wander about was incurred the same level of difficulty as the Christmas shopping usually does.

Time I Could Have Spent Sleeping

Today I went back to Uni ready to start working again. A 9am start on a monday requires me to leave the house earlier than normal and to catch an earlier bus. This means getting up earlier than usual.

People Waste My Time

I come online of an evening to discuss project details with a group(Harry&Ed). Rather than participate in some meaningful conversation they indulged themselves with insulting everybody in the chat room. Some people in society are not worth knowing. But alas they are needed to maintian some kind of social balance at the expense of the gene pool.

A Nice Evening

I have just returned from a pleasent evening in the company of two good friends. Matt G. and Will J. ,otherwise known as the comical duo, were a pleasure to be with. I do however blame ‘Reflex’ (a bar) for having an offer of two bottles for £3. This has tipped the scales and turned me from merry into a blundering fool. If all goes to plan I shall arise in about 7 hrs time and get on the bus to uni none the worse for wear. Fingers Crossed.

A Short Morning

It was a short morning at uni today with only a brief revision session. Still Jeff showed his face again (See Below) and he has termed me “Matt the Breakfast” might be because I eat breakfast at uni each morning.

MMM Nice

In a moment of boredom I recalled this morning. I had a rather nice sausage and egg cob for breakfast. For once the yoke of the egg was done to perfection and had the right ammount of runnyness. What more can you ask for of a simple breakfast item? I’ll tell you, nothing.

Nearly 4am

I have been working nearly all day on these lab write ups and they are still not done. I’m shattered now and I need sleep. Looks like its all gonna have to get done later today. Lucky me. Serves me right for not doing it sooner i suppose. Sleep time now.

Not The Most Productive Of Evenings

I planned this evening to get some circuits simulated as part of my course work due in friday. The problem was the buggers wouldnt simulate. This has been a major set back and has raised my stress level a considerable ammount. Looks like I need to find a solution and fast. On the plus side I am now so stressed I havent got time to worry about depression. Out of the frying pan and into the fire I go. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day. Maybe it wont be. I don’t give a toss anymore. Let life throw what it can at me. I may come close to breaking point but I don’t snap easily. Come on everybody take your best shot at me. This week I shall take you all on with my bare hands and rip you all to pieces.

The Mad Rush Begins

It’s approaching exam time again. Problem is coursework that still needs to be done. I know I should have done it over easter, but I was busy being depressed. Today after spending 6hrs coding my Traffic Lights Sequence and getting 77% (Yay me :D) I felt stragely motivated to get a move on. It has been a good day only let down by the fact I had to walk to the Broadmarsh to get a new bus pass. On the positive side this allowed me to meet Ste on the bus.

Williams F1

Today I went for my interview at Williams F1. On arrival at the facility I was amazed at how big it was in comparrison with the rest of Grove where it it located. In actual fact Willams F1 looked to be most of Grove. The car park was wonderful and lined with trees and shrubs which complemented the new gravel surrounded building. Inside was a marble floor. I sat upon a sofa and read one of numerous copies of the history of Williams scattered about. The glass foyer looked out onto a tidy shaped gravel courtyard with stunning flower beds. My interview went quite well I thought. Ian Cartwright (Electrical Technician) who interviewed me was a very pleasant and likable chap. Then came the exciting bit, a look round the facilities. I saw the stripped race cars from Sunday, now just a carbon fiber shell. Its engine by its side looking rather on the small side. Next I saw the milling machines which make the gearbox parts and the room where they put together the carbon fiber parts. The smaller rooms contained systems for processing the datalogging devices with all the data from the race. The steering wheel underconstruction was a marvel of wires and a chunk of carbon fiber. It was an undescribable experience for me. Even if I dont get the job it was worth going for a look round and seeing behind the scenes. Today I am a Happy Bunny. 😁️

Plenty

Breakfast this uni was a bargain. I went to get a sausage and egg cob and two hash browns. This usually costs me £1.25. This morning however one of the delightful canteen ladies overcooked an egg slightly. So she gave it to me as an extra free. Now this alone I would have been happy with, however there was more to come. When it came to the hash browns there were some which again had been over cooked. I again got them in addition to the ones I had. They are such nice people down in Newton basement. I will miss getting breakfast there over easter.

Damn that Bus

I managed to miss not one but two busses in my attempt to get home. Struggling to get accross the road I missed the first as it pulled away from the stop. It didn’t help matters that I forgot to put my watch on today. I then missed the second at the bus station by again a few seconds. Twas not my lucky day.

A Day Of Stress

Today was a busy day. It started in the EDA (Electronic Design Automation) Lab at 8am this morning. I was testing my VHDL (Virtual Hardware Desgription Language) code for tomorrow. It didn’t go well. It needed nearly a complete rewrite to get it working. I thought I needed to do a second lab prep too and that got me panicking. It turned out this second lot of prep isn’t due till next monday. I finally left the EDA lab after 4.5hr session after lunch. More development at home followed, I have spent nearly 12 hours on it now. I still have so many other things to do. These next 2 weeks before Easter are going to stretch me to my limits. :(

Its a sad day when you know that your lecturers are loosing their marbles. Poor Authur Williams seems to be suffering from equation overload. He keeps getting them mixed up and the wrong way around. I think a national fund for Lectuers Loosing their Subject Knowledge.

Waste of Time

I was up till the early hours (4:30am) of this morning finishing a report for this afternoon. It was a technical report of my Peak Detection Program for the MC68HC11 Microprocessor. This afternoon I was supposed to demo the program and then discus the report. I had to wait from 2 till 3 until i could demo the program. I then had a scheduled slot of 4pm for a brief discussion. Due to a back log of other students the lecturer was lagging behind. By the time 4:30 came I was still waiting. Mr. Saywell (Yes I am going to name you) then decided he would collect in the remaining reports and go though them in his own time. That meant I had wasted and hour and a half just sitting doing nothing. I was well pissed off.

I Dislike You Intensely

Today began as a troubling one in which I had to walk down to the bus stop whilst half asleep. I remained half asleep for the next few hours whilst my body got to work on processing breakfast. Applications

Why must all applications ask me to write out again all the information which is contained in my CV? It’s a tedious exercise and serves only to piss me off and stress me out. Why can’t they say submit a CV containing these details and answer these few questions. It would make things so much simpler.

I Don’t Need To Learn This

Project Management is the most pointless lecture I am forced to attend. Not only does it not teach me anything of use but it takes up 3hrs of my time due to there being an hour break between lecture and seminar. I know I always complain about things on here but this is the life I live.

Project Management

This has got to be one of the most pointless subjects I have to study this year. The Presentation

Today was the day of the presentation of the Electronics Applications Project. It began a cold and miserable morning. The bus driver didn’t help matters by driving right passed the stop i planned to get off at. A bit of a chat with the canteen staff in the basement resulted in a plate of breakfast. It was paid for today using mainly 10p pieces rather than 20p’s of Tuesday. 9am came and wet and there was no response from my group, who were supposed to be meeting me. I finally found them all at 10am as the presentations were about to start.

“Do some work you lazy f*****s”

The group report was due on Friday. My late night stint on Thursday meant my bit had been done. Friday I was not pleased by the lack of work from the group. I agreed that they would e-mail it to me today so i could get it finished and handed in by monday. After numerous excuses and delays I haven’t been sent a thing. I don’t have much hope for getting it done tomorrow as I just don’t have the time during the day to do it even if they give it all to me.

Have I Passed??

Well today was a horrible day. It started by going to get breakfast at uni. Not usually having to get up and go in on a Wednesday I had not encounted this particular member of kitchen staff. I can only say she was not up to the standard of the others. She had quite an aggressive manner.

More Useless Than Yimi

When you have a lecturer overseeing several group projects, you expect them to tell you when the deadline is. This is not the case in the Electronics Department at Nottingham Trent Uni. Have You Got Any Idea?

You tend to think of lecturers being somewhat knowledgeable about the subjects they teach. Why is it then when we do a group project the lecturer is as helpful as a bag of something quiet unpleasant. Showing very little interest in what we have done and constantly telling us that it would be good if it did this. Why cant he understand that we are trying to get the basics to work first before we go for anything fancy. He cant give us any advice as the solution to his problem doesn’t really fall within the boundaries of his knowledge.

Back At Last

Today saw me go back to uni after the Christmas break. The day started out reasonably well until i got into Nottingham. The bus diverted from its usual route (bloody tram works). Not to worry though I would get dropped off closer to where I wanted to go. The problem was that the windows on the bus were steamed up. So following a shapely young lady (looked the obvious student type) I exited the bus. Just my luck that this particular student wasn’t getting off at the same place I had planned to. Never mind it was only short walk down hill. After meeting up with Mr. T Stait, who was engaging the poor chap from stores in his usual mindless banter, I had a MEGA Breakfast (only £2.35). It wasn’t as good a breakfast as I’m used to as they had stopped the free cup of coffee promo.

Lecturers

I would have thought that the process of getting a degree involves learning. Now, how can I learn from a lecturer who cannot speak clear english? Answer: I cant. No disrespect to the lecturers themselves, I’m sure they know their stuff. The problem is that if the subject in itself is not difficult enough to understand they have to make it more so by introducing a language barrier.

Back to Uni

Well I enrolled today and all was going well until i tried to collect my loan cheque. After waiting in line for a considerable time I had the misfortune to discover I had not bought the single sheet of paper that actually mattered. Looks like i may have to get it tomorrow. After a long look and panic looking for this piece of paper i discovered it to be in the most obvious place ie (in front of where i was looking not hidden by anything at all).
